Racing
is a great way to gain sailing experience and meet new friends.
Most boat owners don't mind you being inexperienced as long as you
are willing to learn. A yacht racing crew is a team and as with any
team, what they are looking for from the crew is commitment, enthusiasm
and a willingness to turn up every week through the sailing season.
Crew membership of
Middle Harbour Yacht Club on Sydney Harbour costs $287 plus $43 for YA
(Yachting Association Membership) and a $65 joining fee.
It's a good idea to
go along to the club to fill in a crewing register form. Winter Saturday
racing is from 10 May onwards. Be there by 9.30am to start at around
11am. You can race up to 3 times without joining the club to see if
you like it. Wednesday afternoon social racing takes place all year
round and twilight racing is on Thursday evenings during daylight saving
hours. For
more details check their website http://www.mhyc.com.au/
or telephone them on (02) 9969 1244.
For information on
racing with any other yacht clubs just telephone them and ask how to
go about racing with them.
