Sydney Private Sailing
has designed this one or two day sailing course specifically to prepare you for a yacht
charter in The Whitsundays or Sydney Harbour. Get a group of up to
four of the friends you plan to charter with and hire the whole yacht for
exclusive private sailing lessons at the standard skippered yacht charter

The course is intended
to fill the gap
between the Competent Crew and Inshore Skipper courses. It reinforces
the skills gained in the two previous sailing courses, but with particular
emphasis on preparing you for the charter area you are interested in.
We practise plotting courses on the appropriate charts, converting them to
compass courses and working out distances using parallel rulers and
dividers.
Relevantly, whilst
you don't have to have Inshore Skipper to charter a yacht in the Whitsundays, the benefits you will gain
from the extra experience and confidence the Pre-Charter Course provides
will better equip you to undertake the responsibility of skippering a
charter yacht, greatly enhancing your enjoyment of your family's yacht
charter holiday.
How long do you
need? It depends on you and how much time you have. Of course,
the more practice the better. A one day course can be arranged any
time. If you would like to do a 2 day course, you can do it over 2 consecutive Saturday or Sundays
10am - 4pm or the course can be done over one weekend.
Weekday lessons are arranged to fit your schedule.
Students who have completed the Pre-Charter course
(assuming they have put some effort into the course and done
some reading - see Recommended Books) should be ready
to
charter a yacht on their own.
It's a good idea if
your first bareboat yacht charter is on the same make of yacht you did
sailing lessons on. Sailing lessons with Sydney Private Sailing are
all conducted on a Catalina 32. Yacht charter companies in the

A yacht charter sailing
holiday should be fun not stressful, so if after completion of the course, you are
still not completely confident
in you sailing skills, ask your charter company about hiring a sail guide
for the first day or two of your charter until you get used to the boat.
Qualifications required for Yacht Charters overseas
Sunsail accepts YA competent crew as sufficient for people wanting to
charter in Greece or Croatia but suggest inexperience
skippers would relax more and enjoy their holiday more by joining a flotilla
so help can be at hand.
