Introductory Sailing Course for beginners who want to learn to sail and who have little or no sailing experience.  The Introductory Course covers hoisting the mainsail; unfurling the headsail; steering (turning upwind/downwind, bearing away/luffing up); safe and correct use of winches; tacking and gybing; parts of the boat; navigation marks, basic chartwork;  personal safety; coiling ropes; emergency flares; steering a compass course and knots (round turn and two half hitches, reef knot, bowline, figure of eight).

Sailing lessons in small groups of max 4 will ensure you have plenty of individual attention and guidance from your sailing instructor.  Enjoy the experience of helming a yacht for the first time and feeling the boat accelerate as you learn to trim the sails.  Contrast the excitement of sailing with the relaxation of bobbing at anchor eating lunch and discussing the morning's sail with your instructor and the other sailing school students while the kettle boils for coffee.  Enjoy using your newly acquired yachting skills during the afternoon sail back to our base at Clontarf Marina, near Manly.
 

The 12 hours on the water for the Introductory Sailing Course usually take place over 2 consecutive Saturdays or Sundays or the course can be completed over a weekend.   Weekday sailing lessons are arranged to fit your schedule.  Sailing on Sydney Harbour midweek is much quieter than at weekends so consider taking some time off work to do your sailing lessons.  Sailing lessons during the winter months can be nicer than in summer as even at weekends, Sydney Harbour is much quieter.

All you need to bring is a sandwich and a soft drink for lunch as we are out on the water all day.  Tea and coffee are provided.  Your sailing instructor, Annie, is English so couldn't possibly last the day without a cup of English Breakfast tea!

Sailing lessons are available all year on demand both midweek and weekend.
