Introductory Sailing
Course for beginners who want to learn to sail and who have little or
no sailing experience. The Introductory Course covers hoisting the mainsail;
unfurling the headsail; steering (turning upwind/downwind, bearing away/luffing
up); safe and correct use of winches; tacking and gybing; parts of the boat;
navigation marks, basic chartwork; personal safety; coiling ropes; emergency flares; steering a
compass course and knots (round turn and two half hitches, reef knot, bowline,
figure of eight).
Sailing lessons in small groups
of max 4 will ensure you have plenty of individual attention and guidance from
your sailing instructor. Enjoy the experience of helming a yacht for the first time
and feeling the boat accelerate as you learn to trim the sails. Contrast
the excitement of sailing with the relaxation of bobbing at anchor eating lunch
and discussing the morning's sail with your instructor and the other sailing
school students
while the kettle boils for coffee. Enjoy using your newly acquired
yachting skills during the afternoon sail back to our base at Clontarf Marina,
near Manly.
