Course
(cost
$180 per head or $240 per couple)
The AYF recognised correspondence course
works well for people who work long hours or travel a lot and find it hard to commit to evening
classes. Learn the theory and general practical matters of sailing at your
own pace at home.
The correspondence course is split into 6 Parts as follows:
Part 1 - Getting to
know the boat; rope work; winches; blocks and tackles; basic stability
Part 2 -
Sail theory; shaping and trimming; weather and wind
Part 3 - Tide and waves;
safety; anchoring
Part 4 - Right of way; lights and buoyage; compass theory
Part
5 - Basic navigation Part 6 - Open Book Examination.
The attainment levels for the theory course are
-
60% to 74% Competent Crew
-
over 75% Inshore Skipper
You need to have completed the Inshore Skipper theory course before
starting the Inshore Skipper practical course so this correspondence
course enables you to achieve the levels required for both competent
crew and inshore skipper in one go.
